Videotron, which already offers wireless in Quebec City proper, said it expects to provide wireless telephony to all parts of Quebec by the end of this year.
Videotron is providing wireless services in partnership with Rogers Communications, which operates its own GSM/GRPS/EDGE network that covers most of the Canadian population.
In this scenario, Videotron is acting as an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). While Rogers handles the network and device activation, Videotron takes care of device purchases, technical support, customer service, and billing, according to a Videotron spokesperson.
Videotron's package of wireless, "Basic" Internet (1.5 Mbps downstream), and digital TV services runs $79.95 per month. A business-class offering sells for $99.95 per month. Individual packages include monthly airtime minutes of 50, 300, 500 or 700.
Videotron presently serves 1.52 million cable subs in Quebec.
