Report: U.S. the garden spot for muni-wireless systems
Led by deployments in the U.S., the number of municipal wireless network deployments for public use will surge from 248 this year, to more than 1,500 by the end of 2010.
That forecast, courtesy of In-Stat, notes that wireless mesh technology will play a key role in those deployments, but that it won't be the only platform munis will employ. Additionally, those networks will be deployed and operated by a mix of parties.
"The trend has the local government facilitating deployment, but having a private sector provider owning and operating the network," said In-Stat Analyst Daryl Schoolar, in a statement.
