Comcast Corp. has started to take shipments of the Vegas TDC575, a standard-definition, all-digital set-top from Pace Micro Technology that features an on-board digital video recorder.

Comcast has begun to introduce the new box in "selected" systems.

Pace introduced the product earlier this year, noting that initially the dual-tuner box is designed to run on cable systems equipped with the Motorola Inc. conditional access system. In addition to being all-digital -  targeted to systems that have deployed digital simulcast whereby analog channels are replicated in the digital domain - the Vegas set-top supports the DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) and the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP), a middleware specified by CableLabs. The box also supports the basic interactive program guide and Comcast's video-on-demand service.

Earlier this year, Pace noted that the Vegas box will be about $100 less than a dual-tuner analog/digital HD-DVR. Pace also has one of those - dubbed the Tahoe - as well as a lower-end, SD, all-digital entrant offered under the "Chicago" brand.
