Charter fleshes out exec engineering team
Charter Communications has made several key engineering appointments following the addition of new Chief Technology Officer & EVP of Engineering Marwan Fawaz, who joined the MSO following a rapid rebuild of systems at Adelphia Communications.
Among the additions, Charter has announced seven hires in the engineering department, with many of them joining the company following recent stints with Fawaz at Adelphia:
- Keith Hayes has joined as vice president of network operations and engineering services. He most recently served at Adelphia as VP of operations for the Southern California region, and HFC technical operations & engineering.- Matt Bell was hired as VP of IP engineering and development. Bell has held a range of management slots for BellSouth, MediaOne, AT&T Broadband, and Adelphia. He most recently was at Adelphia, where he led the design and conversion of a new service delivery framework that includes customer provisioning, service activation and service assurance.
- Kelly Ross has joined Charter as VP of network planning and capital management. At Adelphia, Ross oversaw upgrades of about 51,000 miles of plant.
- Doug Ike was hired as VP of advanced video and applications engineering. He most recently headed up corporate engineering and development of advanced video solutions for Adelphia, including its deployment of HDTV, VOD, digital simulcast and advanced set-tops. - James Pierce has joined as senior director of HFC engineering and GIS. During his 29-year career, Pierce has served with Times Mirror Cable, Continental Cable, and MediaOne, and is presently a member of the Broadband GIS Forum.- John Roy was hired as senior director of advanced video implementation. Roy most recently was corporate director of advanced video engineering and development at Adelphia.
- Bob Blackburn was named senior director of digital video engineering. Blackburn most recently was director of advanced video engineering for Adelphia's corporate engineering group.
Charter said all of these new positions are based in Denver, and report up to Fawaz, who was officially named to the Charter post in March.
Fawaz replaced Wayne Davis, who left the company for personal reasons. Pragash Pillai, another former key engineer at Charter, recently joined Bresnan Communications as the MSO's vice president of strategic engineering.
