* Former Broadcom exec joins Ikanos
VDSL chipset specialist Ikanos Communications has appointed Nick Shamlou to the post of VP of worldwide sales.

He most recently served as VP of Asia Sales at Broadcom Corp. Before that, he spent 18 years at Motorola Inc., serving in several sales positions for the North America and Asia markets.

Ikanos recently introduced a family of multimode VDSL2 chipsets optimized for IP-based video applications.

* Entropic chips in milestone
Entropic Communications said it has shipped more than 2 million c.LINK-270 chipsets, which are generally associated with the Multimedia over Coax Alliance, an advanced home networking platform that uses a home's existing coax networks to ship and share video via IP.

Entropic, a founding member of MoCA, said it reached the mark in less than two years of production.

Several vendors are using Entropic chips in their set-tops or gateways, including 2Wire, Actiontec, Foxconn, Linksys, Motorola, Mototech, Panasonic, Scientific Atlanta, and Westell. On the operator front, Verizon and J:COM of Japan have already deployed the technology.

* Conexant HD STB chips have Dolby Digital Plus covered
Conexant Systems' family of high-definition television (HDTV) set-top box (STB) broadcast decoders has been certified to support Dolby Digital Plus audio coding technology. The company's CX2417x HDTV broadcast decoder family includes all of the major elements required to implement the core system and decoder electronics of personal video recorder (PVR)-enabled HDTV STBs deployed in digital satellite, cable, terrestrial or IPTV networks. The multi-format decoders support MPEG-4, MPEG-2, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, advanced audio coding (AAC) and aacPlus.

* JacobsRimell adds another reseller
VoIP network integrator UTC Associates has become a reseller of products from JacobsRimell (JR). UTC will be able to offer its clients the option of incorporating JR's APS fulfillment platform as part of a turnkey VoIP solution, giving service providers an end-to-end scalable platform for VoIP service fulfillment.

JacobsRimell also has partnerships or product integrations with BEA, DST Innovis (now Amdocs), CSG, Cisco Systems, Cedarpoint, Computer Associates, OpenTV, Satyam, Auspice, Apertio, BEA, Oracle and Sun Microsystems.
