EchoStar Communications has signed a deal that will allow it to offer movies and other fare, including some titles in high-definition format, from Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group via the DBS giant's "DISH On Demand" service.

Unlike interactive, two-way video-on-demand (VOD) services offered by cable operators and some telcos, EchoStar's DISH On Demand offering is in actuality a "push" digital video recorder (DVR), whereby content is loaded onto a receiver's hard drive for later purchase and playback.

The new content deal will give EchoStar the ability to serve up new titles such as "V for Vendetta."

EchoStar noted that its On Demand service is available on several DVR/receiver combo models, including the 508, 510, 625 and ViP622.
