TV Cabo of Portugal is looking to push the speed envelope with a pre-DOCSIS 3.0 platform from Cisco Systems Corp.

The channel bonding implementation, which aims to produce shared downstream speeds in excess of 100 Mbps, will feature the Cisco uBR100012 cable modem termination system and modems from corporate cousins Scientific Atlanta and Linksys. The platform is designed to be compatible with the developing EuroCableLabs DOCSIS 3.0 spec. CableLabs is also working on a 3.0 spec for North America, but has yet to issue the final specifications.

TV Cabo has 350,000 broadband customers, and expects to introduce VoIP services later this year. With video added to the mix, TV Cabo has roughly 1.5 million customers.
