NCTC seeks FCC assistance in negotiating with Fox Sports

The National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) is appealing to the FCC to intervene in an argument the co-op is having with News Corp.

NCTC has been trying to negotiate for rights to the Fox Regional Sports Networks, owned by News Corp. NCTC claims News Corp. is refusing to allow NCTC to review contracts News Corp. signed with its individual members, impairing the NCTC's ability to bargain on its members' behalf.

NCTC says the FCC explicitly directed News Corp. to work with NCTC as the agent for its membership in its approval of News Corp.'s 2004 acquisition of DirecTV. The NCTC sent a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin requesting the Commission's assistance in enforcing those conditions.
