Italian broadband provider FastWeb awarded Siemens and its partner Juniper Networks a contract to further expand its broadband network in response to the growing demand for triple play services from both residential and business customers.

Siemens will expand FastWeb's network by installing its multi-service Surpass Carrier Ethernet technology and Juniper Networks' E320 Broadband Services Routers. FastWeb provides IPTV services using both FTTH and ADSL2+ technology.

FastWeb intends to multicast all 2006 FIFA World Championship matches, which is proving to be a driver in attracting new customers. FastWeb is also testing HDTV video-on-demand and multicast transmission over high-speed DSL connections.
