New all-digital HD Pace box supports CableCard, DSG
Pace Micro Technology has launched the Miami DC757 HD, an all-digital set-top that supports the DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) and the CableCARD, a device that separates out the box's conditional access scheme.
Pace will show off the box at this week's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver.
The CableLabs-specified DSG will enable set-top signaling for set-top guide data and other information via a standard DOCSIS channel. Earlier cable set-tops use proprietary, out-of-band signaling technologies.
Pace expects to enter the box for CableLabs certification in the fourth quarter.
The Miami box also features a 1395 5C protected interface.
Elsewhere, Pace and Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI) have forged a deal designed to help consumers better control consumer devices and the services that run through them.
The joint solution will team Pace's set-top family with UEI's "MyChannel" software, which is built on Universal Plug-n-Play (UPnP) standards. The combo will allow users to access and share media, including broadcast television and Internet- and PC-based digital content, through the set-top, which serves as the entertainment hub.
