CableLabs and EuroCableLabs have agreed to extend their working relationship and their goal "to further align the development of cable technology in the U.S. and Europe."

One aim is to provide EuroCableLabs access to CableLabs' DOCSIS and PacketCable test plans, thereby assuring greater technical consistency on cable networks in North America and Europe.

The agreement also will ensure that EuroCableLabs has access to draft specs and proposed engineering changes for both projects.

"This announcement builds upon our common interest in developing specifications in Europe and North America with the objective of attaining with others open, standards-based technologies and hence assuring multiple manufacturers competing to develop fully-featured, cost-competitive products to deliver our cable services," said CableLabs Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Christopher J. Lammers, in a statement.

"EuroCableLabs' and CableLabs' new agreement is an important step toward building a truly international approach to achieving operational interoperability and commonality of cable technology," added EuroCableLabs Managing Director Niels-Kristian Hersoug.
