Vidiom opens OCAP test lab, begins developers program
Vidiom Systems announced it is building an OCAP Test Laboratory. The company also formed an OCAP Application Developer Program (ADP) to support application developers, content providers, and MSOs in the emerging OCAP application market. Vidiom is on a mission to help ensure the deployment of OCAP technology beginning at the end of this year and accelerating through 2007.
Vidiom's lab will provide a range of OCAP device and application testing services for CE manufacturers and application developers. The lab is being set up to perform critical pre-certification and post-certification services for OCAP device manufacturers using Vidiom's vCert Automated Test System, OCAP-compliant networks, application testing services on multiple devices and networks, and test suite development services.
The OCAP developer program was set up to provide application developers, content providers, and MSOs in the emerging OCAP application market with access to a variety of developer set-top boxes, authoring and test tools, documentation, support, lab facilities, and training, as well as online developer forums and an Annual Developer's Conference.
OCAP is part of the OpenCable initiative created by CableLabs and has been adopted as a standard by the SCTE and other standards organizations. The goals of the OpenCable initiative are to provide a unified, open standard that allows programmers to deploy interactive services over multiple cable networks, enable supplier competition, and create a retail market for digital cable receivers.
