Charter Communications has appointed Marwan Fawaz to the post of executive vice president and chief technology officer.
Fawaz, who at press time was serving in a similar role at Adelphia Communications, will assume his new slot at Charter once Adelphia polishes off its sale to Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable.
Fawaz's appointment will coincide with the departure of current Charter CTO and EVP Wayne Davis, who is leaving the company for personal reasons. Davis joined Charter in 2001 as vice president of engineering for the MSO's former western division, and was promoted to CTO in 2004.
Fawaz and Charter's engineering team will continue to operate in the Denver area.
Fawaz, named CED's Man of the Year in the January 2005 issue, joined Adelphia in 2003.
Joining Charter will mark a homecoming of sorts for Fawaz, who once was a regional VP at the MSO and once served at Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures.
