Satellite to triple WildBlue capacity
Satellite broadband service provider WildBlue Communications is targeting a Q4 launch of a new Ka-band spot beam bird that will triple existing capacity.
The Space Systems/Loral-built satellite, Wildblue-1, is slated to launch via an Ariane 5 vehicle from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana. Once in place, it will provide overage for the contiguous U.S. and complement WildBlue's existing satellite, Telesat Canada's Anik F2.
If all goes to plan, WildBlue plans to offer services via Wildblue-1 by January 2007.
Elsewhere, WildBlue also hired Andrew Corp. to build two new spot beam gateways.
