Cisco Systems has closed its $7 billion acquisition of Scientific-Atlanta.

The deal, first announced in November, will expand Cisco's portfolio with the second-largest U.S. supplier of digital cable set-tops, the maker of the PowerKEY conditional access system, and a wide range of video and optical distribution gear for cable and IPTV service providers.

With the deal done, S-A will be folded into Cisco's Routing and Service Provider Technology Group, led by Cisco SVP Mike Volpi, and will play a big role in the vendor's IP Next Generation Network architecture.

Cisco ended up paying $43 per share in exchange for each share of S-A.

More about Cisco's acquisition of S-A will appear in Tuesday's edition of CED Broadband Direct.
