Westell Technologies Inc. has unveiled a new "compact" ADSL2+ modem that weighs in at 3 oz.

The latest in Westell's family of ProLine modems, the E90 measures 3.75-inches long by 3.785-inches wide (photo). The smaller footprint will reduce shipping and storage costs for service providers, the company said.

In addition to traditional Internet connectivity, the model also comes with an onboard Network Address Translation router and dual LAN interface with Ethernet and USB ports.

Because it supports ADSL2+, the modem is designed to support data rates up to 24 Mbps up to 2,000 feet.

Westell expects to begin shipping the ProLine E90 in Q1 2006.
