Motorola Ventures, the investment arm of Motorola Inc., has invested in CopperGate Communications, a maker of HomePNA silicon.

Motorola Ventures joined a $14.5 million round led by new investor Carmel Ventures. Existing investors Tamir Fishman Ventures and the Challenge Fund also participated in the round.

"Motorola's investment in CopperGate validates our technology," claimed CopperGate Chairman Shai Saul.

HPNA traditionally uses home phone lines to network data and applications. It can also bridge between phone and coax lines via a cheap combiner/passive device.
