Softel-USA said its MediaSphere interactive television carousel platform has successfully integrated support for the DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG), a CableLabs spec that uses standard in-band signaling.

Softel-USA said the DSG demonstration opens the door for it to deliver firmware upgrades as well as interactive applications and content to set-tops outfitted with the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP), a CableLabs-specified middleware.

"In response to requests from our clients, we have proved to several operators that MediaSphere carousels may now be sent over IP data networks," said company President & CEO Sam Pemberton, in a statement.

DSG, a coming replacement for proprietary out-of-band signaling methods, will be used by operators to deliver interactive program guide (IPG) data, security files for coming downloadable conditional access systems, and potentially for other IP-based applications, such as streaming media.
