Cox Communications Inc. is now playing its digital telephony hand in Las Vegas, bringing the total for its next-generation telephony rollout to 22 markets.

The Las Vegas market is the latest addition to the digital telephony rollout, following rollouts in the Central Florida, Gulf Coast Florida, Middle Georgia and Topeka, Kan. markets. Digital telephony is now available to approximately 75 percent of the Atlanta-based cable operator's footprint, including the major markets of Orange County and San Diego, Calif.; Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette, La.; and the cluster around Hampton Roads, Roanoke and Northern Virginia.

In related news, Cox also has added online accessibility for its digital telephone service in the Middle Georgia, Gulf Coast and Central Florida markets. Available to customers who also subscribe to Cox High-Speed Internet service, the online portal provides phone tools customers can access to listen to voice mail online, view their call logs, save voice messages to a PC and forward voice mails and attachments.

"Phone Tools represents the first of many innovative features that we'll be able to bring our customers as Cox further integrates its communications and entertainment services," said David Pugliese, Cox's vice president of product management and marketing, in a release. "These features allow Cox to deliver a unique user experience that makes traditional telephone service a thing of the past."
