Comporium Communications, an ILEC and cable TV provider, is using gear from Wave7 Optics to expand its fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network in a residential development near Charlotte, N.C.

The deployment will extend fiber to the Pulte Homes 3,500-home "Sun City Carolina Lakes" residential development using Wave7's Last Mile Link (LML) platform. Comporium expects to begin connecting those homes to the FTTP network by next March.

Comporium has employed an FTTP-only policy for all greenfield residential and business developments. Since April 2004, the company has deployed more than 25 FTTP developments, and another 55 are planned.

Wave7's platform is capable of supporting video-over-IP and over traditional RF technologies.
