The board of the National Cable Television Cooperative has appointed Jeffrey Abbas as the organization's president and CEO. He replaces NCTC founding president Mike Pandzik, who retired in August.

Abbas, who joined NCTC as SVP of business affairs in 2003, previously was the vice president of programming at Adelphia Communications. During his tenure at the MSO, he was elected to the NCTC board (in 1999).

"We are confident [Abbas] will lead the NCTC and our members through the many purchasing and business challenges facing independent operators today," said NCTC Interim President and CEO Tom Gleason, in a release.

"As the telecommunications world continues to evolve into an all-digital platform, NCTC will play an increasingly important role in helping independent operators manage that transition," Abbas added.

NCTC, a programming and hardware buying cooperative based in Lenexa, Kan., represents more than 1,100 independent cable operators that serve more than 14 million subscribers combined.
