MetroCast Cablevision said it will use gear from Cedar Point Communications to support its forthcoming launch of IP telephony.

MetroCast, an operator that serves 110,000 subs in parts of Maine, New Hampshire, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, will deploy Cedar Point's SAFARI C³ Multimedia Switching System, a platform that combines several PacketCable network elements into one logical device.

Initially, MetroCast hopes to deploy VoIP in New Hampshire sometime next fall.

Cedar Point's "focus on carrier class telephony and their dedication in working with cable operators to meet the industry's unique needs have made them a strong technical resource, and a logical choice for our voice switching equipment," said MetroCast SVP and GM Steve Murdough, in a release.
