Global telco TV subs to reach 32 M by '09
The number of customers receiving video services from a telephone company worldwide will jump from 1.6 million in 2004, to 32 million by the end of 2009, predicts In-Stat.
Of that number, more than half will come from Asia, said In-Stat, a research firm that shares the same parent company as CED magazine.
Although many telcos begin with broadcast television and video-on-demand, they also later layer on other advanced services such as digital video recording and high-definition television, noted In-Stat Analyst Michelle Abraham.
The deployments will be good news for vendors, as telco TV-based content and on-demand processing, content security and middleware revenues surpass $600 million in 2009, according to In-Stat.
