Broadband software firm Ashley Laurent (AL) will give a bit more attention to the hardware side of the fence as it develops a reference solution for cable modem gateways and embedded multimedia terminal adapters based on silicon from Texas Instruments (TI).
AL will collaborate with the silicon maker on reference designs based on TI's Puma-3 cable modem chipset, which includes the TNETC4600 DOCSIS cable modem, TNETV901 voice DSP and TNETW1130 wireless silicon. The resulting designs will target "Office in Box" gateways and eMTAs for small businesses and teleworkers.
The equipment will also house AL's new Broadway ISS 2.1 software, which features business-class features such as multi-cast routing over VPN tunnels, DiffServ-based QoS, and protection against worms, viruses and spyware.
The companies plan to complete integration and testing in advance of future certification waves at CableLabs.
