Scientific-Atlanta and Microsoft Corp. have formally agreed to collaborate on IP-based set-top integrations that match S-A's hardware with Microsoft's software.

The collaboration was widely expected. Earlier this month, SBC announced it would support its forthcoming "U-verse" IPTV service with set-tops from S-A and Motorola Inc. The telco has already inked a deal to deploy the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform.

Although SBC has yet to say what its set-top product mix will be, S-A has already built a handful of IPTV set-top models that support standard-definition and high-definition television, and digital video recording. The vendor will also show off a range of set-tops for the international IPTV market at the IBC show in Amsterdam.
