U.S.-based satellite TV player DirecTV has revealed that it is looking at ways to enter the market for wireless broadband services.
Speaking after the release of the firm's second-quarter 2005 results, chief executive Chase Carey underlined that "we are actively engaged in talking to an array of parties that are participating in (wireless) broadband... about various forms of relationships."
Significance: DirecTV's interest in the wireless broadband space comes as the News Corp.-owned firm contends with churn; its net subscriber additions for the three months to June drop to their lowest level since the second quarter of 2003. The firm's interest in the wireless broadband market is still embryonic, with partnerships, alliances or investments all currently being considered.
