Insight revenues rise on digital, data gains
Insight Communications posted Q2 revenues of $279.3 million, a year-over-year increase of 11 percent. The MSO attributed the rise to gains in high-speed data (HSD) and digital video subscriber additions and to basic rate increases.
On the services front, Insight added 23,500 HSD subs, extending its total to 391,300. The company also expanded its digital service subscriber base by 1,800, giving it a total of 460,800. Insight ended the quarter with 73,500 telephony subs, up from 61,600 in the year-ago quarter.
Although basic service revenue increased by 3 percent, an expected seasonal decline (students leaving Insight communities, for example) and competitive pressure by DBS providers combined to erode the company's basic customer base by 14,200. Insight ended the quarter with 1,257,200 basic subs.
Revenue generating units (RGUs), the sum of basic, digital, high-speed data and telephony customers, rose by 7 percent to 2.18 million.
