Widevine scuttles SVP membership
Thu, 06/09/2005 - 8:00pm
Software encryption specialist Widevine Technologies announced intentions to terminate its membership in the NDS GroupSecure Video Processor (SVP) Alliance.
"After one year of membership and careful consideration, Widevine believes the SVP Alliance is ultimately not in the best interest of service operators, consumer electronics manufacturers, content owners or the consumer," said Widevine CTO and VP of Engineering Glenn Morten.
SVP Alliance members include service providers such as DirecTV and Cablevision Systems Corp., silicon makers Broadcom Corp. and Conexant Systems, and CE firms Humax, LG, Pace Micro Technology, Philips, Samsung, and Thomson, among others.
NDS was not immediately available for comment.
