United, Verizon to put WiFi in the sky
Mon, 06/06/2005 - 8:00pm
United Airlines and Verizon have received the requisite approvals to install an in-flight broadband system based on WiFi.
The Federal Aviation Administration gave its approval for United B757-200 aircraft after United and Verizon successfully demonstrated that 802.11 b/g technology within the cabin would not affect aircraft operations. United hopes to outfit all aircraft models with WiFi, but did not specify a launch date for WiFi service.
Verizon already supplies its Airfone service on United's U.S. flights.
