SeaChange International has added voice-activation capabilities to its cable video-on-demand (VOD) platform thanks to an agreement with AgileTV.

SeaChange has integrated its VOD servers and software with AgileTV's Promptu, a network-based, voice-activated navigation system that uses a specialized IR remote control with a built-in push-to-talk button, which, in turn, communicates with a server at the cable headend. The system incorporates a database of more than 100,000 phrases.

AgileTV has already integrated its system for the Motorola Inc. digital set-top platform. Comcast Cable is among the larger MSOs to trial the system. Comcast is testing the AgileTV platform in the Philadelphia area, a market that so-happens to use the SeaChange VOD system.

The agreement with SeaChange marks AgileTV's first with a VOD vendor.
