Nokia and Intel Corp. have sealed a deal to push support of emerging WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) technology in mobile devices.

The companies said they will collaborate on base station strategies to help deploy a WiMAX umbrella that will provide "adequate and reliable coverage," and to see how WiMAX can enhance the data service capabilities while complementing existing 3G networks. They will also work together to fuel the finalization of the 802.16e standard.
