EchoStar Communications Corp. shored up its executive ranks Monday with the appointment of Michael Neuman to president and COO, and cable vet Carl Vogel to the post of vice chairman.

Neuman, who will oversee day-to-day operations at the DBS provider, joins the company after serving as president of Bell Mobility, a subsidiary of Bell Canada Enterprises. Previously, he was with Bell ExpressVu Satellite Television, WorldLinx Telecommunications, and Cerberus Canada.

Vogel, who joined the board of the company in May and is now in his second full-time stint at EchoStar, will head up financial and strategic initiatives. Vogel, most recently the chief executive of Charter Communications, served as EchoStar's president from 1994 to 1997. Also on the satellite front, Vogel once served as chairman and CEO of Primestar.

"EchoStar's combination of energy and entrepreneurialism gives it a unique place in the media industry, and I'm thrilled to be back," Vogel said, in a release.
