Linksys and Vonage are teaming on a promotion designed to entice consumers to trade in their old routers for new ones outfitted to support Vonage's VoIP service.

The promo will allow people to bring in any brand or model router and trade it in "free" for a new Linksys Wireless-G Router outfitted with two phone jacks — so long as they sign up for Vonage's IP voice service. In addition to promoting the Vonage service, Linksys is also nudging consumers toward faster 802.11g technology.

Customers who take this route will also be required to complete a few tasks before they bask in all of the financial benefits. Those who purchase the special router at participating stores will receive a $10 rebate from Linksys and a $20 rebate from the participating reseller. They must also activate the Vonage service before receiving another $50 rebate. Customers are also required to mail-in their old router to a Linksys fulfillment center to receive the final $50 rebate.

Linksys and Vonage are making the offer through July 23. Participating retailers include Amazon.com, Best Buy, Buy.com, Circuit City, CompUSA, Fry's Electronics, Office Depot, Radio Shack, and Staples.
