EchoStar Communications is pushing the whole-home entertainment needle by incorporating support for HomePlug 1.0, a powerline-based home networking protocol.

EchoStar initially is offering the capability in its DISH Player-DVR 942, a receiver with on-board high-definition and digital video recording capabilities. The box is supporting the powerline technology via an embedded transceiver (the INT5200) from Intellon Corp.

Using the home's powerlines, the box will be capable of distributing digital audio and video to other receivers and HomePlug-enabled devices.
