Charter Communications Inc. has tapped video servers from Kasenna Inc. to boost its on-demand service rollout in Eau Claire, Wis. and Rochester and St. Cloud, Minn.
The MSO will use Kasenna's MediaBase XMP video servers to keep up with demand for its Charter OnDemand service in those cities. The servers will supply an expanded library of movies, premium channel hits, sports, music and other programs.
Charter has already deployed the MediaBase servers to expand capacity in Madison, Fond du Lac and Janesville, Wis. markets.
"As we continue to expand our video-on-demand offering, we have found that it is both feasible and more cost-effective to implement solutions based on open standards," said Pragash Pillai, Charter's vice president of digital video engineering. "With Kasenna servers, Charter can reduce the complexity of building and integrating proprietary systems. Their servers also offer the kind of scalability and interoperability across a broad portion of our networks that our operations demand."
