Time Warner Cable is rolling out reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) technology in partnership with Scientific-Atlanta and Tropic Networks.

Under the deal, Time Warner will deploy Tropic's WT-24000 optical transport platform, TROPX software suite and Wavelength Tracker, a component that applies an optical signature to each wavelength platform and enhances optical visibility. Time Warner will tie the ROADM platform to its core DWDM network and "related support services," the companies said.

The rollout, scheduled for completion in Q2 2005, will give the MSO the ability to remotely modify network topology and optimize bandwidth usage. It will also provide Time Warner with a dual homing master headend protection to ensure uninterrupted VOD services and to support existing commercial-class services.

The deployment comes on the heels of a recent deal under which S-A agreed to resell Tropic's transport products.
