Consolidated Communications is the latest telco to power an IPTV service with the Coaxsys Inc. TVnet platform.
Consolidated will use the Coaxsys-made adapters to deliver IP-based video services via existing home-side coaxial networks at speeds as high as 104 Mbps over distances up to 250 feet.
Consolidated provides voice, video and data services via 250,000 access lines in parts of Illinois and Texas. Its video service provides more than 200 channels, including 45 set aside for music.
Coaxsys is not alone in this particular technology category. The Multimedia over Coax Alliance, which includes support from operators such as Comcast Cable and EchoStar Communications, aims to produce speeds up to 270 Mbps on legacy, in-home coax networks.
