A new handset from Net2Phone will enable customers to make and receive calls over open Wi-Fi hot spots.

Net2Phone's VoiceLine XJ100 handset is designed to automatically sniff out Wi-Fi access points and gives VoIP much-needed mobility and flexibility.

"With the upgraded firmware, customers simply turn on their phone and it automatically connects to the open hot spot with the strongest signal," said Net2Phone SVP of Product Management and Marketing David Span.

The handset is a component of Net2Phone's SIP-based VoiceLine service, which sells for as little as $8.99 per month.
