Camiant Inc. has closed an $8 million B round of funding led by the startup's original investors: Matrix Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners and Pilot House Ventures.

Camiant, which has raised $16 million to date, said it will use the additional funds to fuel growth in North America and internationally.

Marlborough, Mass.-based Camiant makes a policy server - a primary component of PacketCable Multimedia, an architecture designed to inject QoS into a range of cable services and applications such as video telephony and gaming.

Unlike companies like Camiant and CableMatrix, which make stand-alone policy servers, some vendors are integrating the policy server element with their softswitch platforms.
