Switzerland's largest cable operator has tapped BigBand Networks to support a redundant digital headend architecture.

Cablecom, which serves more than 2 million subs via this architecture, has deployed BigBand's Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR) and Broadband Real-Time Encoder (BRE) in its centralized headend in Zurich. There, Cablecom runs a simulcrypt integration with Nagravision 's conditional access system, and pipes services to Cablecom subs as well as to customers connected via other cable operator partners.

In addition to supporting simulcrypt, BigBand's role in the deployment includes real-time encoding, video grooming, and network transport.
