EGT Inc. has been given the green light to market its line of MPEG-2 digital video encoders to members of the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC).

EGT, as a "Platinum Level" vendor, now has the authorization to sell it wares to more than 1,000 U.S. small- and mid-sized cable operators that make up the NCTC. The co-op typically pre-negotiates programming and equipment deals to ensure that smaller cable operators get volume discounts usually reserved for larger MSOs.

Atlanta-based EGT makes digital video encoders designed to distribute high-quality cable and satellite signals at low bit rates. So far, the company has announced purchases with Canadian operators such as Persona Communications, Mountain Cablevision and Cogeco Cable.
