Taking a page from cable competitors and other telcos, California-based SureWest Communications has upgraded the downstream cap of its DSL service to 3 Mbps. SureWest has also increased its upstream speed from 128 kbps to a healthy 768 kbps.

SureWest has made the upgrade available in markets such as Roseville, Citrus Heights and Granite Bay. It sells for $42.95 per month with a two-year commitment, but is priced lower than the $44.95 SureWest previously sold its flagship 1 Mbps DSL service.
