On-demand blooms at Sunflower Cable
Video-on-demand is blossoming for Kansas cabler Sunflower Broadband, which plans to debut service in Lawrence, Kan. next month.
The cable provider is tapping SeaChange International 's VOD platform for the service, which will reach 30,000 Lawrence-area cable subscribers. SeaChange's VOD System package includes the MediaCluster server, automation software and real-time content recording gear.
The service will initially feature more than 1,000 hours of movie and television programming from sources including NFL Network, HGTV, Food Network, Fine Living, DIY and Showtime.
"We've embraced digital television fully to give our subscribers the most exciting applications available on the market today and to set the stage for new ones," said Patrick Knorr, Sunflower's general manager, in a release.
Based in Lawrence, Sunflower is among the more savvy of the smaller, independent cable providers. It offers digital cable, broadband Internet and switched telephony services to customers and businesses in Lawrence, Eudora, Tonganoxie, Basehor and parts of Leavenworth County.
