Alaska's GCI has launched a new data tier to customers in Juneau that caps the downstream at 4 Mbps and the upstream at 384 kbps.

GCI, one of the first cable operators to launch tiered data services, now offers a range of "Xtreme" services to customers who bundle in voice and video services.

The latest Xtreme Speed tier complements products such as Xtreme Home Office (2 Mbps/384 kbps); Xtreme Gamer (2Mbps/384 kbps); and Xtreme Power (3 Mbps/384 kbps).

Additionally, GCI charges $10 per month for Xtreme Plus (2 Mbps/256 kbps) to customers who subscribe to the company's "Ultimate Broadband Package," which bundles in long-distance and local phone service, and a set of basic cable television channels.

GCI launched the Xtreme tiers last fall to customers in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai/Soldotna and Palmer/Wasilla.
