Shaw Communications has expanded the availability of "Xtreme-I," a cable modem tier that caps speeds at 5 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up.

The new tier, which carries a $10 per month premium, is now available in Shaw's Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Ladysmith and Nanoose (British Columbia) systems.

"This turbo-charged service is perfect for customers whose Internet experience includes online gaming and exploring rich multimedia sites," said Shaw President Peter Bissonnette, in a statement.

The higher tier also offers seven e-mail addresses, two IP addresses, and 10 megabytes of "personal" Web space.
