Pushed along by strong demand for integrated digital video recording and high-definition support, cable set-top box shipments have bounced back this year after a sluggish 2003, according to In-Stat/MDR.
In-Stat, a sister company to CED magazine, said 2004 shipments will reach 10.87 million, up 11 percent from 2003. One in every five digital cable set-top boxes shipped this year has been DVR-enabled, the research firm found. HD-capable boxes, meanwhile, are on track to hit 2 million units shipped this year, up from 750,000 last year.
Shipment growth will remain steady during the next five years thanks in part to added demand in Asia and Europe, In-Stat noted.
