Net2Phone has launched a new VoIP service platform that incorporates Wi-Fi access.

The VoiceLine XJ100 Wi-Fi Handset marks the first product for Net2Phone's eventual suite of wireless VoIP platforms for service providers.

The new handset is designed to leverage Net2Phone's wireline VoIP platform as well as wireless extensions. The phone also supports traditional features such as voice mail, caller ID and call forwarding. Net2Phone added that it expects future products in its Wi-Fi suite to include a "softphone" client for PDAs and PCs.

"By removing the tether from wireline services, we have extended the availability of VoIP to customers who have access to wireless broadband," noted Stephen Greenberg, Net2Phone's CEO.
