Fujitsu Networks Communications has launched a "cable-ready" switching platform for small- and mid-sized operators.

The company said its Flashwave 7500 Small System can deliver up to 10 Gbps per wavelength by combining Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), a Reconfigureable Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) switch fabric and multi-rate optical line cards.

"The ROADM switching and advanced transport capabilities of this system allow service providers to eliminate standalone switching elements and reduce network complexity," said Doug Saylor, Fujitsu's VP of marketing, in a statement.

Fujitsu added that the Small System platform is ideal for networks requiring support for up to 16 wavelengths, and the option to upgrade up to 32 wavelengths.
