Buckeye Cablesystem is treating digital subs in Toledo and Southeast Michigan to a growing menu of local video-on-demand content.

Buckeye, whose primary VOD partner is SeaChange International, is offering weekly installments of WTWB-TV's (a WB affiliate) Garden Guy in on-demand format. The MSO also is offering a spate of Buckeye-produced local high school sports coverage on-demand, including football, baseball, basketball, cross country and swimming.

Toledo's PBS affiliate (WGTE-TV) is also shoring up Buckeye's VOD stores with a number of history and entertainment programs.

Buckeye believes local VOD gives it an advantage that DBS can't match.

"Buckeye VOD is exciting for consumers and it extends the value of BSCN (Buckeye CableSystem Sports Network) productions and other broadcast programming - advantages that satellite can't deliver," said Florence Buchanan, the MSO's vice president of marketing.

Buckeye also offers subscription-VOD services from HBO, Cinemax and Starz!, as well as weekly game highlights from NFL Network, children's programming, and a lineup of "free" VOD content.
