Netgear has introduced a home networking extension kit that supports both HomePlug 1.0 and the 802.11g wireless standard.

The WGXB102 Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender Kit uses the existing powerline infrastructure as the home networking backbone, but uses 802.11g to extend the Internet connection wirelessly.

Netgear said the product, which uses Intellon silicon, is designed to extend wireless networking into former wireless "dead zones," such as back yards and basements.

Netgear expects to offer the product at retail early next month, with prices starting at $149.99.
